Blast Effects Analysis
Karagozian & Case (K&C), a World Leader in Blast
Consulting and Blast-Resistant Design, recently
completed a Blast
Effects Analysis (BEA) on the design of the ConVault
protected Aboveground Storage Tank. Three different threat
scenarios were investigated to determine the
inherent blast resistance of ConVault's design. The scenarios investigated were meant to simulate: a blast from a
vapor cloud, a suitcase bomb and a car bomb.

AST Inspection Standards
Standards referenced in NFPA
30 and NFPA 30A (2008 editions) call for periodic inspections of aboveground tanks.
But how often is periodic and who exactly should be
performing these inspections?

A Timely Delivery for Las Vegas Valley Water
The
Las Vegas Valley Water Department provides water to more than
one million people in Southern Nevada. To accommodate recent growth the
Department required additional dispensing systems for both Gasoline and
Diesel. The scope of work required excavation, electrical and concrete
site work. With winter rapidly approaching it was critical that these
systems be installed and functioning before the first frost.

Canadian UST Removal Deadline
Ontario
Regulation 213/01 (The Fuel Oil Regulation) calls for the removal or
upgrade of all single wall steel underground fuel storage tanks.
The deadline for removal or upgrade depends on the age of the tank (see chart
on next page for reference). Owners may choose to have a
Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA)-registered
contractor remove the tank or upgrade the system to include overfill
protection, spill containment and leak detection.
