Stage I Vapor Recovery for Fuel Storage Tanks
Stage I Vapor Recovery, how do I comply?
Many
areas around the nation now require annual testing for stage I
vapor recovery systems installed on aboveground storage tanks.
California, New York and Massachusetts all are among the states
that now have laws that mandate testing. Many other states are
considering adopting these same mandates. Compliance with these
tests requires at a minimum the use of a 3/8 W.C. pressure
vacuum vent cap. This vent cap contains an internal pressure
valve set at 3" water column and a vacuum setting that does not
exceed an 8" water column. The cap assures even pressure in your
AST during filling and/or pumping. You can identify this cap by
looking for a yellow band around the vent cap with the numbers
3/8 on it. Mandatory testing in certain areas of Mass, NY and
California ranges from annually to once every five years.
